Since Waverley Golf Club was rated 10th best in New Zealand by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak in his book The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses volume 5 that covers Asia, Australia and New Zealand other accolades have followed.
Born in Michigan, USA, Doak travels the world rating his favourite golf courses and then evaluates his selections with three co-raters.
It has been described in one review as “one of the best golf courses that you’ve never heard of!”
A you tube video by Josh Sens from Golf.com released in September 2026 features all the North Island's biggest names: Tara Iti, Te Arai Links, Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs. But he said the sheep farms like Waverley and Te Aritipi are really what blew them away. Other courses included are Manghawai, Waipu and Paraparaumu Beach.
